Good post Todd!

Todd there was a sportsnet report about Flames & Devils talking seriously of a Brodie for Coleman deal. Have you heard any word of that? Maybe Treliving might have more interest from teams like Anaheim & Winnipeg for a top 4 D, which is understandable as he should be trying to get the best return as possible.

Dube will make the team. MacDonald may, but less excited about that. Hope we can find a suitor for Frolik because at this point he seems more expendable than Brodie.

Winnipeg is looking like a prime location for Brodie right now. They lost a ton of defense over the summer and now Byflugien contemplating retirement means they should be looking at any option they can. The question is what do they give up?

I saw someone mention Roslovic + a 2nd for Brodie, and I'd be completely happy with that. I'd personally look at maybe grabbing Ehlers, but I'm not sure Winnipeg does that 1 for 1 with Brodie.

I will probably get roasted for this but with Rantanen wanting over 9 million per year on a long term contract, I'm sure Tkachuk is probably wanting the same. I say trade the little greedy wiener if that is the case. It is getting ridiculous how these guys coming off entry level contracts feel so entitled.

Their entitlement stems from current performance these days. I think it makes more sense to pay players on the uptick as opposed to paying them for what they've done in the past. Like it or not, it's the reality of today's NHL.

Tkachuk is worth a payday. Guys like him are difficult to find. Clutch, an emotional leader, sweet hands. Hes a guy more likely to show up come playoff time.

I'm disappointed that everyone is so gung ho to dump Frolik. He's a great penalty killer and puts up decent numbers and again he's showing a LOT of drive in generating scoring opportunities. Definitely worth his pay!

One prospect I'd really like to see the Flames take a better look at is Gawdin.

Problem is with the case of both Frolik & Brodie is that we cant afford to pay these guys & extend them next summer. They are both UFA's. We also have to pay Tkachuk & then we will need to extend Ras, Kyllington, Jankowski & hopefully Hamonic & possibly Czarnik if he breaks out this year. I would rather get assets back & cap space for Frolik & Brodie. We have the depth & youth to replace both of them. Asset management.

I gotta say, I am really getting disappointed with Tkachuk as well. But, maybe & I suspect to be so, they already have a tentative accord on a new deal & it will put us over so Tre maybe saying to Tkachuk, hold tight stay in London until I get the cap situation & player move down. So I suspect we will probably see a deal announced this time next week.

If Brodie is moved its because some team paid up and we need the cap space to sign Chucky. Brodie makes 4.65 so trading him for Ehlers who makes 6 does not help our cap problem.

I dont think anybody is saying trade Frolic because he is not a good player!
The facts are:
We need to clear space to sign Chucky.
We are deep at center and forward so if you need to clear cap space that's the first place you look to clear $ off your cap.
Frolik makes 4.3 and will be gone for nothing next summer as a UFA so if you can move him, clear cap space and recoup an asset its the right play.

What would you trade him for though? Any trade that brings back a return anywhere close to Tkachuk's value is going to cost the Flames just as much eventually. They either pay him or make the team worse. They have to pay him

So, Quine, Smith-Pelly, Lomberg, Gawdin, Rinaldo, Davidson, Yelesin all in the lineup tonight. I'm guessing most of these guys will be gone tomorrow. Should be an interesting game to see if any make a case to stay.

I would trade him for Hunkulese being banned from hockey buzz. I know he needs to get paid, there are possible trades to be made. BTW Hunkulese, are you even a Flames fan you have nothing positive to say, did you ever even live in Alberta???

There's still quite a few RFAs unsigned so I just don't think people know what the market is. TO turned everything upside down with Mathews and Marner. If he wants Marner's deal, yeah, I agree..get rid of him. But if he want $9, that's probably pretty reasonable but Id try to get 6 years. I think in 2 years, there's a massive new TV deal in the US so $9 will look cheap at that point.

???

Calling Tkachuk a greedy wiener is fine, but saying trading Tkachuk makes the Flames worse is somehow negative?

I dont think he's worth 9.0 mill per. I would put him just below Aho's deal & I would think a 6 year 48 mill deal would be reasonable ...hahaha... I guess as reasonable as us peons could expect. Colorado are holding to $8.5 on a long term for Rantanen & I think he is better than Marner. Certainly better than Tkachuk. But we need him, pay him but if he's expecting ridiculous money, maybe sitting out a year may teach him the value of $$$$

I agree that none of them are worth 9 million per year. But, the new TV deal might add $20-30 million to the cap. The cap will be over 100 million. I think that's why so many players are wanting to go shorter term right now.

Pretty decent chance that's the last time we ever see him in a Flames jersey. At least he got himself that sweet one-way contract this year.
